Golden Lion Tamarin

The tour takes us to the Associação Mico-Leão-Dourado (AMLD), an association for the protection of this monkey established in a Conservation Unit between the cities of Silva Jardim and Casimiro de Abreu, located at about an hour and a half away drive from the city of Rio de Janeiro.

Once there, the tour starts with “Na trilha do mico” for experiencing tracking the monkeys for about four hours, which includes the following activities:

. Observation of lion tamarins in the forest
. Visit to the Reserva Biológica de Poço das Antas (the country’s first Biological Reserve)
. Visit to the exhibition in Centro Educativo Adelmar Coimbra Filho
. Presentation on the species and the work of the AMLD
. Shopping on Micolojinha
. Interpretative trail of Boi Branco (optional)

All the walking is done in low difficulty trails and in the company of specialized tour guides.

The tour may include activities such as planting native seedlings of the Mata Atlântica and visiting family farmers, nurseries and agroforestry producers. The region is full of nature and beautiful farms. It is also possible to have lunch at some these properties, enjoy waterfalls and rafting, horseback riding or trekking.
